PRESENCE OF EVIL

Presenceof Evil

TheBible is an incredible book of history and factual information thatis a proof that there is a supreme being that created all things. Themost important thing is that the Bible is the word of God. We learnfrom the Bible the story of mankind and how they were created goodbut they chose to distrust and disobey God.

Whenwe read the Bible, we should continually ask ourselves some twoimportant questions about the content of the Bible. One of thequestions from the Bible comes from the book of Matthew. In the bookof Matthew, Jesus asks the disciples what they say of him and Peteranswers him that he is the Christ. Another question that we can askourselves about the content of the Bible is who God is and what ishis will for our lives. One can find this question in Romans 1:20 andRomans 2:14-15.

Safeguardsto Avoid misunderstanding God in Old Testament

Firstof all, one should always watch for the attributes of God. Forinstance, in the book of Genesis 1:3, God commands for light, “AndGod said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” (Genesis1:3, NIV). This indicates that God is a powerful being and he cancommand for light to exist (Lennox 53). We also get to know that Godis the creator- he made things, therefore, as one reads the Bible heor she should keep in mind that God is very powerful.

Secondly, one should also keep in mind what he or she has learned about God.Most of the people that study the Bible start with the New Testament.Taking this into account, a person who has read the New Testamentwill already know that God is loving, God is good, and also that Godis forgiving. Most of the people who have read the Bible remember averse, that is, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gavehis one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perishbut have eternal life.” (NIV)

Third, one should know that God is a spiritual being. In the book of Isaiah6:3, the Bible says, “…Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts:the whole earth is full of his glory.” This verse shows that God isa leader. Another instance is seen in the book of Exodus 15:26, “…Iwill put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought uponthe Egyptians: for I am the Lord that heals thee.” In this verse, one sees that God is a healer (Lennox, 55).

Fourth,a person should bear in mind that his or her goal is not just to knowabout God but also to get to know God. In Biblical times, thereligious leaders knew and understood all the rules about God andchurch. One should, therefore, live in God’s commands rules andalso live in his presence.

Sinand its Results

WhenAdam and Eve ate the apple, they disobeyed God. They thus lost manythings when they disobeyed God including God’s blessings. Adam andEve lost all of God’s blessings. The results of sin found inGenesis 3 include the curse of death which was pronounced on mankind.Another consequence of sin was that man should toil. Genesis 4-11shows other effects of sin when Cain murders his brother Abel. Godpronounces curses on Cain just like He did with Adam and Eve.
