DomesticViolence Affects Women More Than Men

Imagethis a person you trust and love betrays you by inflicting physicaland emotional pain. What is domestic violence? Different sourcesdefine domestic violence as the hostile behavior in a family thatinvolves vicious abuse of a partner or spouse. There are two waysthat make women suffer more from domestic violence than men they areweak in addition to the fact that they are not heads of theirfamilies.

Womenexperience domestic violence more than men do because, naturally, they are deemed as weak emotionally and physically. A relationshipwhere a man abuses a woman physically never has a” happy ending”this is because the man is more muscular than a woman is. In thepoem, the poet says that a woman may stay for a long time hoping thatthe man changes but he does not. That shows how women are vulnerableemotionally.Research done by the National Domestic ViolenceHotline indicates that spouse abuse is a gender sensitive issue inthe 21st century, which tends to affect women more than men. Thestudy identifies alarming statistics to draw the attention of thismatter to the society. According to Bickerstaff “Women are moreprone to violence especially in places like the military camps, homes, camps and while going out with friends”(15). In all theplaces named by the author, men are available, but they are lesslikely to experience the violence since they are the perpetrators. It is critical to employ punitive measures if violence against womenis to stop. Abusing women because they are weaker sex than men isunacceptable individuals who do these probably adapted violenttendencies as children. For instance, a boy who grew up witnessingviolence against his mother or sisters will end up a domesticviolence perpetrator in future. When he grows up to be a man, he willnot find it a problem to abuse the women in his life. The other waythat women are susceptible to violence is instability in the homeenvironment. The National Domestic Violence Hotline highlights thehighest rates of female violence at home were notable in women aged18 to 24 and 25 to 34 years (&quotThe National Domestic ViolenceHotline | Statistics&quot). Such statistics may be associated withthe issue of stability in the family if a woman lives in an unstablehome, her emotional state is vulnerable, the chances are that shewill experience violence more in the quest to have a goodrelationship or marriage.(&quotThe National Domestic ViolenceHotline | Statistics). If a girl grew up in an unstable home, shestrives to have a whole family that is stable in the future, in herdesire to do so men might take advantage of her. In the poem, thepoet refers to the house where the victim lives as a house of crueland angry winds, refers to an unstable home. The U.S. Department ofJustice supports this argument by showing that women are 90-95% morelikely to be victims of domestic violence than men are.

Insummation, this exemplification essay has shown that domesticviolence as a societal issue has affected women more than men withthe two main reasons being that females are weak and do not headtheir families. The issues that make women prone to violence arethat they consider as the weaker sex physically and emotionally. Myopinion is that unstable homes make women vulnerable emotionallyhence, they become easily violated. Violence against women is anunacceptable vice and should stop. Punishments for individuals whodefy women administered severely and swiftly should serve as examplesto everyone. Victims of violence should not be afraid to report anycases of violence towards them.
