Details on 2014 March Break baseball trip opportunity

WHAT: The iCASE baseball program is looking for any area high school secondary school students who are interested in joining them on their March Break baseball training trip. The plan is to practice and play games on a daily basis while there. We will attempt to see a Major League Baseball Spring Training game, as well as tour a university campus or two.

WHEN: Departure will be either the evening of Thursday, March 6 (as of today, there are 8:30pm flights available), or the day of Friday, March 7, 2014. We will all return on the morning of Sunday, March 16.

WHERE: It is looking like 90% that we’ll go to Florida (Orlando area), with still a slight chance that we’ll go to Arizona (Phoenix). We continue to study both options at this time, booking accommodation, local travel, and competition. The plus to going to Arizona is that it is more likely that you haven’t been to that part of the USA. But Florida will likely be cheaper and easier to schedule competition.. We will be housed in a quality team hotel with an outdoor pool.

WHO: Any area high school student is welcome. Playing time will be virtually equal. iCASE Field Manager/GM Tom Valcke will be the supervising adult for the trip with two other adults TBA. Parents/siblings are allowed to join. It should be noted that pitchers are at a premium for this trip, as we are planning right now to practice on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, then play a game per day from Monday through Friday, wrapping things up with a Spring Training game on Saturday. The schedule is still being finalized.

WHY: Just to get a jump in our Spring Training and enjoy some sunshine after this long, cold winter.UPLOAD - iCASE players get into the Notre Dame pre-game tailgating

COST: $1275 will cover travel to and from Detroit’s Metro Airport, air travel to our destination, local travel while there, hotel accommodation including breakfast, all diamond rentals, umpire/tournament fees, equipment, uniforms, laundry, etc. If you wish to get to and/or from Detroit on your own, that will reduce the fee by $30 each way. Any family who drives other players to or from Detroit Metro Airport will receive $30 per player each way. Players will be responsible for their other meals/snacks, as well as any personal spending money. All players are required to have passports. We will require a $500 downpayment on January 31, 2014. We need to book the flights now in order to purchase them at the cheapest rate possible as well as trying to get everyone on the same flight. The air travel costs rise, literally, every day. If players decide after Jan. 31 that they wish to join us, then their cost will be increased by the difference in airfares purchased on Jan. 31 versus when you commit top coming. Two additional payments will be required on Feb. 15 ($275) and Mar. 1 ($500).

HOW: Contact Tom Valcke, Tel: 519-703-4088, or info@icasebaseball.com for further questions or to secure a spot. You may mail or drop off your initial deposit ($500) but please also include the two additional post-dated cheques.
